POW Diaries 1945 April 01 1945 J.H.Hallam Stalag VIIIB

April 1 1945 Sunday.

Cold wind, and very overcast. I get up about 8 o’clock. Have coffee and slice of bread for breakfast. They get some results from the Drum set. We had our last cigarette this morning. I’m saving half mine till after dinner. The soup was only Swedes and turnips today. Nothing very exciting has happened today. The news is good what bit there is. We have a stew tonight made from half tin meat roll, a few spuds saved from dinner, and a slice of bread to thicken it. We played knockout whist this evening until bedtime.
