P.O.W. Diaries 1945 April 10 1945 J.H.Hallam Stalag VIIIB

Tuesday April 10 1945

4.30 out of bed, had a bite and a drink of coffee, roll call 6 o'clock a.m. We were taken straight out to work, we did not know where to or anything. It turned out to be a -------quarry job pushing great wagons of stone. All down hill to the job, 1200 yds. climb, feeling weak and exhausted. Roll on the Yankees. Conditions are beyond words. We make a brew of tea and have a biscuit when we get back. I don't think I'll be going tomorrow. Hear that the Russians only 5 kms from here, and our troops 125.

Editors Note.

A quarry is still visible from the Google Map  of  Konigstein.

The reference Trooper Hallam makes to Rumberg, I cannot find in this location... there are several other 'bergs', which may mean it was a location
